NCC Clarifies Directive On NIN, Mobile Line Subscribers Deadline

The Nigerian Telecommunication Commission has clarified the information on the new policy for the registration with National Identity Number[NIN] and the subsequent disconnection of subscriber sim cards after the deadline.

In a press release signed by the Director, pubic affairs of the Commission, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, says there are numerous fake and misleading information making the round in the news about the mass disconnection of the telephone subscribers which the commission needs to clarify.

The statement reads:

The attention of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been drawn to numerous publications in both print and electronic media regarding the unfounded fears of mass disconnection of telephone subscribers as a result of the ongoing linkage of SIM Registration Records with the National Identity Number (NIN).
It is therefore necessary for the Commission to issue this clarification in order to allay the fears of subscribers and the general public.

Most of these publications are based on the erroneous assumption that for every network or SIM connection, there is one unique human subscriber.

However, with the advent of social media and App-driven digital environment, network subscription went beyond human subscribers to include machines like PoS, Routers, Wi-Fi devices, electricity meters, CCTV, tracking devices etc.

A recent survey conducted in Nigeria has shown that on average, there are now approximately 4 to 5 SIMs to every human subscriber. This explains the basis of allowing the linkage of up to 7 SIMs to 1 unique NIN in the recently launched Federal Government Portal.

Thus, if there are 43 million Nigerians with NINs, this could account for about 172 million SIMs already linked to NINs. It is very important to emphasize that the current exercise of linking NIN to SIM(s) is for the common good of all Nigerians, as it has far reaching benefits.

Apart from enhancing our general safety, this will help in such vital exercises like National Budgeting, Policy Planning, Social Intervention programs and many more.

The Honourable Minister of Communication and Digital Economy has assured that the Government will continue to review the exercise in the light of experiences to ensure its smooth implementation.

We call on all our media partners, publishers and reporters to always endeavour to seek clarification from the Commission before going to the press, especially on sensitive issues.

Zuckerberg Extends Ban On President Trump’s Facebook, Instagram Accounts

Mark Zuckerberg has announced indefinite ban on President Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Few hours after Twitter announced its ban on the President over his comment on the violent protest that rocked the congress building in Capitol, Facebook and Instagram follows suit.

Facebook Authority said the indefinite ban was necessary based on President Trump constant inciting statements and more importantly the last statement that incite the public resulting into violent protest in capitol.

“The shocking events of the last twenty four hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden,” he said.

“over the last several years, we have allowed President Donald Trump to use our platform consistently with our rules, at times removing contents or labeling his posts when they violates our policies.”
We did this because we believe that the public has the right to the broadcast possible access to the political speech, even controversial speech.”

“But the current context is fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.”

We believe the risk of allowing the President to continue to use our services during this period are simply too great.”

Therefore we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete, he said.

Twitter Announces Ban On President Trump’s Accounts.

The Social media giant, Twitter has suspended President Donald Trump from its platform on Friday January 8 indefinitely.

The ban on President Trump comes after his comment on a violent protest in Capitol that left 2 people dead while others were reportedly sustained scores of injuries.

Twitter revealed in its statement released that President Trump’s account was ban after much review of his comments and statement made through its platform since his struggle to stop Joe Biden, the newly elected President of America.

“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

“In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action.”

Twitter’s decision followed two tweets by Trump Friday afternoon that would end up being his last.

The tweets violated the company’s policy against glorification of violence, Twitter said, and “these two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior from this account in recent weeks.”

The first tweet was about Trump’s supporters. “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Twitter said the tweet concerning inauguration could be viewed as a further statement that the election was not legitimate.

Trump’s other statement about American patriots suggested that “he plans to continue to support, empower, and shield those who believe he won the election.”

Reactions from the public says same measure should be meted to him to forestall further inciting pronouncements.

Hong Kong Restaurant Goes Automated From Cooking To Service

From the kitchen to serving tables, a new restaurant in Hong Kong has been automated.

The “Food On” restaurant, located in Hong Kong’s Science Park, deploys machines to replace human workers, including waiters, chefs and even those on the delivery section.

The technology in the new “Food On” restaurant not only makes the best use of kitchen space, but also hygiene, according to the restaurant’s founder, George Mew.

“The second reason is food safety, because chefs come with a lot of food safety issues – dirty shoes and falling hair, and sick people bringing Vinto the kitchen.”

For some customers, the automated kitchen still cannot compete with a human chef. But others welcome the idea of food cooked by robots.

Leo Luk, a customer has mixed reactions: “I can tell whether the food is cooked by the machine or by the human chef by the taste. But of course, I believe that with advances in technology, it could be improved in the near future. But for now, I can still feel the difference.”

Kim Lam, another patron: “My favorite dish in this restaurant is fish fillet in cream sauce. I think the sauce tastes better than the one prepared by a human chef.

“It’s because the seasoning is standardized, the dish tastes the same every time I order it here. Also, the food is prepared quickly, which takes only three minutes. It’s very appropriate for busy people like me,” she added.

For those who don’t have enough time to visit the restaurant, “Food On” even has a delivery robot. It is equipped with sensors and can navigate through the corridors, security doors and elevators to deliver orders to the offices close to the restaurant
